Beechwood Team Takes On the West Highland Way
Wednesday 27 May, 2026Staff members John and Elena, alongside Daniel, a person we support at Beechwood, have successfully completed an incredible 96-mile West Highland Way walk over five days, raising an amazing £760 for Beechwood service.
The challenge saw the trio take on one of Scotland’s most iconic long-distance walking routes, travelling through demanding terrain, steep climbs and breathtaking scenery, all while showing remarkable determination, teamwork and resilience.
A keen walker who enjoys physical challenges and outdoor activities, Daniel relished the opportunity to take on the iconic route. Although he is non-verbal and communicates in ways other than speech, those who know him well recognised his enjoyment through his engagement, determination and positive responses throughout the challenge. From enjoying the stunning landscapes and wildlife to tackling the challenging uphill climbs towards Conic Hill, Daniel approached every stage of the walk with resilience and enthusiasm.
After reaching Balmaha on day one, the team rested and recharged before continuing onto even more technical and demanding terrain on day two. Rocky paths, steep climbs and difficult underfoot conditions tested the group, but Daniel continued to impress, at times powering ahead with such energy and confidence that John and Elena struggled to keep up.
Despite the physical challenge, the team remained in great spirits throughout the journey, encouraging one another every step of the way and celebrating each milestone together.
The £760 raised through the challenge will go towards creating a new recreational and sensory space at Beechwood service, helping to enhance opportunities and experiences for the people we support.
A huge congratulations to Daniel, John and Elena on this fantastic achievement and thank you to everyone who supported and donated along the way.
