An Carina’s New Sensory Room

An Carina’s New Sensory Room

An Carina’s New Sensory Room

Wednesday 26 April, 2023

Our service in An Carina is now home to a bright and fun sensory room for the people we support to enjoy.

Katrina Clouston, Service Manager for our Dunfermline Hub and An Carina said when she took over the service in October, “the room was really dark and mainly used for storage, it was a wasted space. We wanted a place within the service for the people we support to relax and explore”. With a grant the service had received, Katrina looked online for furniture and equipment to create the perfect sensory room, and create a calming environment for the people we support to benefit from.

The team got to work! Lynette, a staff member at An Carina decorated the room and was delighted to have a little help from one of the people we support. Painting the room from dark blue to white, the room quickly began to transform.

Although the room was only completed a few weeks ago, Katrina says she’s already seen the impact it’s had on the people we support, saying “It’s like night and day. It makes such a difference, one of the people we support goes straight into the sensory room, I’ve never seen people so happy”. At Real Life Options, we strive to provide facilities that meet the interests and needs of the people we support, leading to greater choice and independence. The new sensory room provides a calming and fun place for relaxation, encouraging the people we support to get involved with new activities.
