Blooming Marvellous Achievement for Gordon
Wednesday 16 January, 2019We are massively proud to announce that Gordon, a person supported by Real Life Options, received not just one, but three awards last year for services to his local community.
Gordon, a keen gardener, volunteers three days a week at Garthdee allotments, along with his Support Worker Mike. Both have been involved in several community-based projects, including a scheme to build raised flower-beds for a new Special Education school in Aberdeen. In addition, they help with maintaining the communal areas of the allotments; planting vegetables, flowers, trees and general maintenance of the fencing and greenhouses.
In appreciation for their hard work throughout the year, Gordon and Mike were selected to represent the allotment Society at the ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ ceremony in Stirling, where they collected an ‘Outstanding Level Certificate’ for the best maintained allotment. Gordon was equally proud to receive an award for ‘Best Volunteer Gardener of the Year’ from the Allotment Society, with Mike receiving ‘Best Overall Contribution’ for his community involvement at the allotment.
Gordon also volunteers one day a week at Aberdeen’s Duthie Park, where he works in the community garden section of the city’s first green flag park, helping with planning and maintenance. In appreciation of his contribution, Gordon was awarded a Certificate of Accomplishment by Aberdeen City Council, achieving a hat-trick of awards for 2018. Well done Gordon!
