Elsdon Mews Mad Hatter Tea Party
Tuesday 12 December, 2023People we support at our Elsdon Mews service recently enjoyed a Mad Hatter tea party, raising an outstanding £455 for British Heart Foundation.
Kay McLaughlin, Registered Locality Manager in South Tyneside says “we always had coffee mornings at the service but this stopped during Covid. We wanted to do something to get people we support involved in the community. We chose to raise money for British Heart Foundation as it’s a charity that’s close to me.”
Local businesses got involved, donating plenty of exciting prizes for the raffle, and Teddy the therapy dog paid people we support a visit on the day! A range of delicious homemade cakes were on sale for everyone to enjoy. Kay says, “People we support loved it and staff were very hands on. It’s all about helping people we support to build up community involvement and make friendships.” At Real Life Options, we believe everyone should feel valued and have a sense that they belong in their community. People we support are encouraged to contribute to their communities, learn new skills and try new experiences.
After the success of the event and the positive impact it had on the people we support, Kay says the team are thinking of doing an annual fundraising event at the service.
