Hawick’s Fantastic Care Inspectorate Feedback
Monday 21 August, 2023A huge congratulations to our Hawick service on their fantastic Care Inspectorate feedback following their recent inspection. The service achieved a level 6 grade on the key question ‘How well do we support people’s wellbeing?’. Feedback from the inspection found that ‘performance was sector leading with outstandingly high outcomes for people.’
The fantastic grade was achieved through an in depth inspection which saw the inspector observe practice and daily life, review documents, and speak with people we support, their families, and staff.
Our Hawick service provides both an outreach service, which was taken over by Real Life Options two years ago, and a housing support service which has been run by Real Life Options for over 20 years.
The incredible result comes after lots of hard work. Lynn Jack, Service manager at Hawick says, “Real Life Options took over the outreach service two years ago. The first year was challenging but we’ve changed the outreach service through time. We had Mick, our Quality Assurance Partner do a lot of thorough audits, and the service improvement tool has been fantastic.”
Lynn says “when Real Life Options first took over the outreach service, the previous provider had been restrictive and staff were often unable to take positive risks. It has taken a lot of hard work but TUPED staff have really adapted to Real Life Options and are seeing the benefits since we took over.” The report concluded that the service was proactive in reviewing previous restrictions which took away people’s choices. These positive changes mean people we support at the outreach service are now encouraged to be in control of their finances or medication.
Unlike the outreach service, staff at the housing support service work with people we support with more complex needs. Feedback highlighted that staff encourage all people we support to make their own choice, no matter how small and evidenced this through support plans, outcomes and daily logs. At Real Life Options, we believe everyone should feel empowered to have choice and control over their lives. Our experienced teams respect people’s choices and are committed to helping them become a reality. Ali, Team Coordinator at Hawick says “staff have been really on board” with putting these positive changes in place.
We heard from one of the people we support who said, “I like my support. I feel like this is my home”.
Lynn says, “As long as people we support get what they need, I’m happy!.” The team at Hawick are committed to supporting the wellbeing of people we support, ensuring everyone is supported to achieve their potential. Well done everyone!
