My Story: Beau Brookbank

For Beau Brookbank, confidence didn’t come overnight. Living with autism once felt like something that set him apart, something he saw as a weakness. But with the right support, encouragement, and understanding from the team at Real Life Options, Beau has discovered that his autism isn’t a barrier at all. It’s his superpower.

Over the past year, Beau has taken part in supported training to help him understand his autism and recognise his strengths. Through patient guidance and consistent support, he’s learned how to see himself differently, not as someone defined by limitations, but as someone with unique abilities and perspectives.

That change in mindset has transformed Beau’s confidence. A year ago, he wouldn’t have imagined standing in front of a room full of people to share his story. This year, he proudly took to the stage at our MyVoice conference, speaking openly about his journey and inspiring everyone who listened. His presentation wasn’t just brave, it was a clear sign of how far he’s come.

Outside of the conference, Beau’s growth continues. He’s now an active part of his local community, helping in a local kitchen and spending time socialising with others, things that once felt daunting but now bring him real joy. He also takes part in recruiting his own staff team to support him. Each new step has helped shown how capable, kind, and determined he is when he feels supported and understood.

Seeing Beau so happy and confident is a testament to what’s possible when people are given the tools to believe in themselves. He sums it up best in his own words:

“My autism isn’t my weakness — it’s my superpower.”
