Plans Underway for Inverurie Garden Makeover

Wednesday 19 May, 2021

Friends in Inverurie supported by Real Life Options staff have ambitious plans to turn their outdoor space into a beautiful and accessible sensory garden. The aim is to transform the garden into a tranquil and welcoming place where people can meet and safely socialise together. The people we support, their staff team, family members and community neighbours are looking forward to rolling up their sleeves once work begins.

They plan to add a path to remote areas of the garden and a slabbed patio area with seating which will be suitable for wheelchair access. There will be raised planters so that people can be involved in looking after the plants. There will be bird boxes and other features to attract wildlife into the garden and a barbeque for get-togethers and parties.

The group plan a host of fundraising activities to raise funds to buy tools, plants and equipment and hope to begin transforming the garden in the next few months. The first fundraising activity is a 5k walk along Aberdeen’s beach front on the 28th June. People will be supported by their staff teams together with friends and family – some in fancy dress including ‘Ruben’ the horse!

“Everyone is so supportive and excited about the garden makeover. They are looking forward to taking part in all the fundraising we plan to do in the coming months. After a tough year, this has really brightened everyone’s mood and will make a real difference to the people we support.’’ Darren Moore, Service Manager.

If you live in the area and would like to support the project as a community volunteer, please contact reallifevolunteers@reallifeoptions.org. And if you would like to donate towards the Inverurie garden project, you can find details of their current fundraising activity at Virgin Money Giving.
